Twice Nice Thriftiques’ Senior Giving Trees Spread Joy & Hope

Twice Nice Thriftiques have been valuable partners to the NACOG Area Agency on Aging’s program, Holiday Joy for Older Adults. As in past years, it was the goal of NACOG-Area Agency on Aging to provide our neediest seniors, whom would be all alone at Christmas, with holiday gifts and cheer.

As you can imagine the process of implementing the holiday giving program from start to finish involves the efforts of many, from the Care Coordinators providing the names of their clients, to team members calling clients to obtain their wishes, reaching out to local businesses who will sponsor a tree, to tracking, wrapping, and distributing the gifts to our clients.

Barry, Matt, Marge and all of the dedicated staff at both the Cottonwood and Sedona Twice Nice Thriftiques, were instrumental in spreading happiness to the loneliest seniors in our community.

Clients couldn’t believe that a community member cared enough about them to buy them a present. One client called his Care Coordinator twice to say thank you, saying “how wonderful it is” to be thought of. Another client cried and said that this was the first present she has received in 3 years.  One woman who received the gifts she had asked for was beside herself when she discovered other gifts in the package — “Oh my Gosh” was her comment and now claims that she is sleeping better because of the Dr. Teal’s Lavender lotion she received. She commented that she could never afford these items, so these holiday gifts are “such a treat.”

With social isolation and loneliness common among older adults, the Joy for Older Adults program is not only meant to share with those less fortunate, but to help alleviate feelings of isolation and show our older adults they are remembered, and their well-being is important to us.
