How We Help

The Verde Valley Sanctuary offers a safe haven for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. We offer shelter, counseling, safety and exit planning, legal advocacy, and education and prevention services.

All survivors of domestic and /or sexual violence are eligible for our free services. Support is available in English and Spanish.

Emergency Shelter

A confidential shelter for survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault and their children. Shelter Advocates assist survivor residents with 24/7 trauma-informed care, safety planning, referrals to support groups and counseling services, intensive advocacy, addressing basic needs, learning about domestic violence, learning about options, referrals to medical, mental, and emotional health services, support with navigating the legal system, accommodations for survivors with physical and other disabilities, and permanent housing support. As we are a temporary emergency shelter, the maximum stay is four months.

Outreach Center

Confidential assistance to survivors who may not need emergency shelter. Advocates assist survivors with trauma-informed care, safety planning, referrals to support groups and counseling services, intensive advocacy, addressing basic needs, learning about domestic violence, learning about options, referrals to medical, mental, and emotional health services, support with navigating the legal system, and permanent housing support.

Lay Legal Advocacy

Lay-legal Advocates provide trauma-informed assistance and support to survivors of domestic and sexual violence as they engage with legal system. These services primarily focus on assisting clients with obtaining injunctions against harassment, orders of protection and pursuing divorce and custody issues. Legal Advocates attend court hearings to support survivors. Our advocates do not act as attorneys for survivors and are not able to provide legal advice. However, they are available to assist survivors in navigating the legal process, discuss possible outcomes, provide information that will help survivors make informed decisions, and coach them for success in the court room.

Youth Empowerment Services (YES)

The Youth Empowerment Services Program (YES) delivers early intervention and prevention strategies through a 5-week curriculum taught in Verde Valley schools and libraries from Kindergarten to high school. The curriculum promotes healthy relationships, healthy boundaries, self-care, healthy self-image, and conflict-resolution skills.

Educational Support Groups

Domestic Violence, Sexual Violence, & Trauma Healing.

Summary of 3 Rotating Curriculums:

1. Domestic Violence - Identifying unhealthy relationships, safety planning, DV effects on children, pattern of behaviors used to gain or maintain power and control.

2. Sexual Violence - Identifying the many faces of coercion and harassment, exploring options after assault, victim's rights, secondary victims, moving forward.

3. Healing from Trauma- Finding your way to healing and activities such as journaling, poetry, art, music, and movement.

We also offer advocacy, support, comfort, safety planning, and connection to community resources.
