What is an IRA Charitable Gift?
An IRA charitable gift — also called a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) — allows someone age 70-1/2 or older to give directly from their traditional IRA to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization without paying income tax on that withdrawal. Because the money goes straight to the charity, it isn't counted as taxable income, which can lower your overall tax bill and even satisfy Required Minimum Distributions (RMD) once they begin at age 73. It is one of the most efficient ways to give, letting you support Verde Valley Sanctuary while maximizing the impact of your donation and minimizing taxes!
So why might you want to use your IRA to support Verde Valley Sanctuary?
It's a way to avoid income tax even if you don't itemize your income deductions.
When using your IRA to help Verde Valley Sanctuary, you do not pay income tax on the amount sent directly to us. Therefore, it reduces your income tax bill.
It may allow you to make a larger gift than if you had to write a check.
It leaves money in your checking account for other expenses.

In fiscal year 2025-26, Verde Valley Sanctuary provided services to more than 1,500 survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, including nearly 7,600 bed nights and answering almost 1,300 crisis hotline calls. Since 2020, VVS has housed 150 clients in emergency shelter on average per year and doubled the number of survivors served in transitional housing since 2025.
With support from individuals like you, Verde Valley Sanctuary has the potential to save lives. All funding directly supports sexual and domestic violence survivors in the Verde Valley and beyond to escape abuse and find healing.
