What is the YES Program?
The YES Program is designed to equip young people with the skills to identify issues of power and control in their relationships and friendships. This program provides information to promote empowerment, healthy self esteem and positive choices.
The YES Program is one of Arizona's longest-standing evidence-based prevention programs and is a model for other programs across the state. Our YES specialists provide violence prevention and healthy relationship education to students in elementary, junior and high school students throughout the year.
Curriculum
The YES Program curriculum aids local youth in raising their awareness around empowerment, self-awareness, bullying, peer pressure, stress and relaxation, gratitude, body image, empathy and compassion, healthy and unhealthy relationships, red flag-green flag training, and mental health.
Yes Program Goals
Our Youth Empowerment Services (YES) program strives to provide youth education so they may develop healthy relationships, anger and stress management skills, and build self-esteem. Our long-term goal of the YES Program is to help reduce the number of domestic and sexual victimizations in our community by educating our youth.
Facts
- 16 million women and 11 million men who reported experiencing intimate partner violence in their lifetime said they first experienced it before the age of 18.
- Data from the CDC’s “Youth Risk Behaving Survey” in 2021 indicated that among U.S. high school students who reported dating during the 12 months before the survey, about 1 in 12 experienced physical dating violence, and about 1 in 10 experienced sexual dating violence.
- 1 in 5 female high school students report being physically or sexually assaulted by a dating partner. (National Domestic Violence Hotline)
- 1 in 3 adolescent girls have reported physical, emotional, or verbal abuse from a dating partner. (National Domestic Violence Hotline)
